Driving Change in the Performing Arts at Opera Europa’s Geneva Conference
Next Stage Initiative
On 2-3 October 2025, our Funding Programmes Team, together with expert partners, will organise an in-person capacity-building event during Opera Europa’s autumn conference at the Grand Théâtre de Genève. This event marks a significant step forward for the Next Stage Initiative, moving from an online format to an in-person gathering designed to foster deeper engagement and practical learning within the European opera and dance community. The Next Stage Initiative is led by FEDORA and Opera Europa in collaboration with expert partners, Aktionsnetzwerk Nachhaltigkeit, Thema 1, BPI Learn, and IMZ – International Music + Media Centre, thanks to the co-funding of the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
For the first time, this capacity-building programme will be open not only to FEDORA Platform Members but also to other organisational members, reflecting our commitment to fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing across the sector.
Structured with a full day on Thursday and a half day on Friday, the programme will focus on three priority areas shaping the future of the performing arts:
Sustainability: Supporting organisations in adopting environmentally responsible practices aligned with Theatre Green Book standards and sector-specific pathways.
Inclusion and Accessibility: Exploring actionable strategies to widen participation, remove barriers, and ensure equitable access to opera and dance.
Digital Transformation: Examining how digital innovation can enhance artistic creation, audience engagement, and institutional resilience.
Participants will engage in expert-led workshops, discussions, and practical sessions designed to equip them with tools to implement change within their organisations. The in-person format will create valuable opportunities for networking with peers and connecting directly with expert partners committed to advancing sustainability, inclusion, and innovation in the performing arts.
Hosting this event at the Grand Théâtre de Genève provides an inspiring setting to exchange ideas, foster new collaborations, and reflect collectively on how the opera and dance sectors can navigate change while preserving artistic excellence.
This capacity-building initiative is part of our ongoing mission to empower the performing arts sector with the knowledge and resources to build a sustainable, inclusive, and innovative future. We look forward to welcoming participants in Geneva for two days of collaborative learning and meaningful dialogue.
